Crucifix carved by Edmund Charles Burke, 1938

Clinton County Iowa

(Current owner: Kym Burke)

In 1938, Paul J. Burke, youngest son of Edmund and Gertrude Burke, designed a crucifix and asked his dad to whittle it for him. Edmund made it out of a single piece of wood and it remains in beautiful condition. Paul was twenty-two at the time and a student at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. When Paul's wife, Cynthia, died in December 1996, their eldest child, Kym, inherited this treasured heirloom.
